For law enforcement, a police duty belt is an essential part of your everyday gear. It’s the base for which all of your most critical equipment rests, and a good duty belt can make or break your day as an effective officer. For anyone who's new to the field and has never worn a duty belt before, it might be intimidating to figure out exactly how they work and how to wear them. If that’s you, then don’t worry, because today, we’re going to be walking you through exactly how to wear a duty belt with pants.
For the purpose of this article, we’ll be using the Kore Essentials duty belt as our model police belt.
Wearing a Duty Belt All Starts with the Inner Belt
Most duty belts are dual belt systems, meaning you have an inner belt that goes through your belt loops and an outer belt that attaches to the inner belt. Kore duty belts are dual-belt systems that use a soft-loop inner belt and a hard-hook outer belt.
To wear your inner belt, feed the belt through your belt loops just like you would a regular belt. The inner belt is designed to both keep your pants up and secure your outer belt. For Kore inner belts, make sure that the flexible end of the belt is flush with the cut end of the inner belt. You can follow the photo below for reference.
Next, take your outer duty belt and attach it to your inner belt. When doing so, it’s important that you keep your duty belt buckle centered with your waist. This allows you to control the position of your belt buckle, and it makes it easier for you to attach your outer belt to your inner. Use your dominant hand to hold the buckle, then use your non-dominant hand to wrap your outer belt around your inner belt.
With that, you’ve just put on your duty belt for the first time! While different, the process for wearing a duty belt with pants is pretty straightforward. Just feed your inner belt through your belt loops like you would a normal belt, then attach your outer belt over the top of your inner belt.
