How to Choose Your Gun Belt - A Complete Guide to Kore Gun Belts

Summary:

  • Kore Essentials offers a wide variety of ratcheting gun belts, and ratcheting fashion belts (non-gun). Deciding on a gun belt depends on several factors, which include what you’re wearing it for, how much gear you’re carrying, and your preferred style.

  • Kore gun belts are available in 1.25”, 1.5”, 1.75”, 2” & 2.25” variants. EDC belts are considered 1.25” & 1.5”. Range work and duty-related gun belts are going to be your 1.75”, 2” & 2.25” belts.

  • All Kore Essentials gun belts are micro-adjustable and cut-to-size, so you know you’re getting the perfect fit every time you wear yours.

Choosing the right gun belt for you is one of the most important steps in your concealed carry journey. With several options to choose from and tons of different ways to describe gun belts, it can be overwhelming to make a choice. Luckily for you, we have a complete guide to choosing the right gun belt for you. We’ll cover the differences among sizes, materials, and use cases so you can make the most informed decision when choosing the right gun belt for you.

But before we start, let’s ask ourselves…

What is a Gun Belt?

A gun belt is a belt that is specifically designed to support the weight of a full-sized firearm. High-quality gun belts are reinforced to provide the rigidity and strength to support your firearm, while also being adjustable enough for a comfortable everyday carry experience. All Kore Essentials gun belts, whether they’re 1.25” in width or 2.25” in width, are reinforced with our proprietary inner Power-Core™ Center, giving our belts the rigidity to support full-sized, compact, and sub-compact firearms. All Kore gun belts are micro-adjustable and cut-to-size, so you know that you’re getting the perfect fit every time you wear your belt. Comfort is key for concealed carry, and a strong belt that evenly distributes the weight of your gear while being fit for your exact body type is essential for your EDC.

Now, let’s take a look at the different types of gun belts and their use cases.

1.25” Gun Belts - Slim EDC Gun Belts

The 1.25” gun belts are the smallest gun belts that we offer at Kore. Their slim width is ideal for dress occasions, as well as women's pants, which typically have tighter belt loops. Kore 1.25” gun belts are excellent EDC belts for women and men who are looking for a low-profile and stylish gun belt that’s adaptable for a wide variety of pants types.

All Kore belts are interchangeable, meaning that when you purchase a belt from us, you select the belt strap and buckle of your choice. For instance, we currently have four different belt straps and two different buckle options for our 1.25” belts. You select the belt strap that you want, plus the buckle, out of the compatible options, and that’s what we ship to you. Below, you’ll find a breakdown of the 1.25” belt strap and buckle options that are available.

1.25” Belt Straps

  • Leather

    • Black

    • Brown

1.25” Buckles

  • Q1 - Horseshoe design. Lightweight, low-profile. Great for AIWB, IWB, OWB.

  • Q2 - Square design. Lightweight, low-profile. Great for AIWB, IWB, OWB.

If you are looking for a slim EDC belt that is both low-profile and fashionable, then our 1.25” gun belts are for you. These gun belts are specifically designed to accommodate women's pants, so if you’re a woman looking for a concealed carry gun belt, the Kore 1.25” EDC gun belts are a safe bet. While you can wear whatever belt you’d like, if you’re worried about your belt fitting through your belt loops, the 1.25” gun belts are a great starting point.

Considerations to Make with 1.25” Gun Belts

If you decided that the 1.25” gun belt is the right choice for you, then there are a few things to consider before you make your purchase. Most everyday carry gear is designed for 1.5” belts, which is the standard belt width for CCW. Before you purchase your 1.25” gun belt, make sure that your holster can fit a 1.25” belt. If your holster is too big for a 1.25” belt, you can purchase adapters that allow your holster to work with a 1.25” belt.

We offer three sets of holster clips that are designed to allow your holster to fit on a 1.25” belt. You simply swap out the existing holster clips that you have with the Kore holster clips, and you’ll be good to go! We offer an IWB foldover clip, as well as an IWB bottom hook holster clip, and a set of OWB pancake clips. You can purchase a complete set of these clips by going with the Kore Dime Bag, or you can find each individual set of adapter clips on our 1.25” gun belt collection page.

1.5” Gun Belts

The standard width for gun belts is 1.5”. Most EDC gear is designed to fit 1.5” belts, so this is the preferred belt for EDC and concealed carry. As we’ve mentioned before, all Kore gun belts are ratcheting and cut-to-size, so finding the perfect gun belt for you is easy. Kore 1.5” gun belts are available in a variety of leather and nylon options, as well as basketweave and carbon fiber. All Kore 1.5” gun belts are compatible with our X-series and Western-series buckles. With over 12 different buckle options to choose from, from tactical to more traditional options, there are plenty of ways to customize your gun belt for your exact style.

Full Grain Leather Gun Belts

We have full-grain leather gun belts available in black, tan, and brown. Our full-grain leather gun belts fit waist sizes from 24” - 44”, with XL options that fit waist sizes up to 54”. Kore full-grain leather gun belts give a very classic and professional look. Our leather options are the perfect fit for the office, church, or everyday wear. They can support a full-sized firearm, and they’re considered to be a middle ground for flexibility and rigidity. If you’re looking for a more traditional-looking gun belt that doesn’t scream tactical, Kore full-grain leather gun belts are the way to go.

Armortek Leather Gun Belts

Armortek Leather is a synthetic leather proprietary to Kore Essentials. Armortek is designed to be twice as tough as traditional full-grain leather, which makes it a more rugged and durable gun belt option that still has that traditional belt look. Just like our full-grain leather belts, Armortek leather gun belts are available in black, brown, and tan color options. Kore Armortek leather gun belts can fit waist sizes from 24” - 44”, with XL options that fit waist sizes up to 54”. The key difference between Armortek leather and traditional full-grain leather is that Armortek leather is synthetic. Visually, both options look identical, and unless you were a leather aficionado, you’d never tell the difference.

  • Fits waist sizes from 24” - 44”, with XL options fitting waist sizes up to 54”

  • Available in black, brown and tan

From licensed Multicam to your standard color schemes, there’s something for everyone with a tactical nylon belt. Kore nylon gun belts are available in black, grey, coyote, tan 499, ranger green, navy, Multicam, Multicam Black, Multicam Tropic, and Multicam Arid. We occasionally release limited-run camos such as Splatter, Desert Digi, Flecktarn, Fleck-no-tarn, and British DPM, among others.

Kore nylon gun belts fit waist sizes from 24” - 54”, with EXL belt options fitting waist sizes up to 72”. Our tactical nylon gun belts are stiffer than our leather gun belts, offering the same rigidity and support, but with a noticeable difference in stiffness. If you are looking for a more tactical look with a variety of styles and color options, Kore tactical nylon gun belts are the way to go.

Key Features of Tactical Gun Belts

  • Fits waist sizes from 24” - 54”, with XL options fitting waist sizes up to 72”

Western Leather Gun Belts

Our western leather gun belts are constructed with premium-grade buffalo leather and the same inner Power-Core™ Center as the previously mentioned belts. Kore western leather gun belts have a matte finish, which means the leather will age and wear over time. This delivers a rustic and weathered look that’s ideal for a more casual appearance. Our western leather gun belts complement blue jeans perfectly, although they can certainly be worn with khakis and dress pants.

Kore western leather gun belts fit waist sizes from 24” to 44”. At this time, there are no XL options for our western gun belts. If you are looking for a more casual gun belt that can complement jeans or dress pants, then our western leather gun belts are an excellent choice.

Key Features of Western Gun Belts

  • Fits waist sizes from 24” - 44”

  • Available in black, brown, tan, & coffee

  • Compatible with all Kore X-Series and Western gun belt buckles

  • Premium Buffalo Leather with a matte finish

  • Softer feel than the leather or nylon options

1.5” Ranch Series Gun Belts

Our final option of 1.5” gun belts is our Ranch Series Gun belts. Released in 2026, Kore Ranch Series gun belts are constructed with two thick layers of premium full-grain leather, manufactured right here in the US. Supported by a double layer of our Power-Core™ Center, Kore Ranch Series gun belts are the thickest 1.5” gun belts that we currently offer. These belts are designed for serious EDC and deliver a refined western look.

Kore Essentials Ranch Series gun belts are available in black, brown and tan leather. Because these belts are so much thicker than our standard 1.5” EDC belts, they use a different buckle type that we call our R-Series buckles. Currently, there are four different R-Series buckle options that you can choose from. Kore Ranch Series gun belts fit waist sizes from 24” to 44”. If you are looking for a heavy-duty, thick EDC belt to that doesn’t scream tactical at all, but still shows that you mean business, the Ranch Series gun belts are a perfect option for you.

Key Features of Western Gun Belts

  • Fits waist sizes from 24” - 44”

  • Available in black, brown, & tan

  • Exclusively compatible with Kore R-Series buckles

  • Two thick layers of premium full-grain leather

  • The thickest 1.5” gun belt available at Kore

1.75” Garrison Range Belts

Kore Garrison Range Belts are 1.75” in width and provide an extra level of rigidity for your gear. These are designed specifically for range use, however, you can wear these as your EDC if that’s what you prefer. Our Garrison belts are available in a variety of leather and nylon options, depending on your preferred style. Similar to our 1.5” belts, our nylon options are noticeably more rigid than our leather options; however, both styles can carry the same amount of gear and support the same amount of weight.

A key thing to consider when purchasing your 1.75” Garrison Range Belt is whether or not it will fit your current pants. Most pants have belt loops that are designed to accommodate a 1.5” belt, so a 1.75” belt might not work with your current pants. To be extra sure, you can measure your belt loops to see what size belt can fit through them. If you’d like, you can also purchase range-specific pants that are designed to fit a 1.75” belt.

Kore 1.75” Garrison Range Belts can fit waist sizes from 24” to 44” for leather, and 24” to 54” for our nylon options. There are five buckle options currently available for our Garrison Range Belts. These buckles are classified as our G-series buckles.

If you are looking for a wider gun belt that serves as a great in-between for a range belt and an EDC belt, then the 1.75” Garrison Range Belts might be right for you.

Key Features of Garrison Range Gun Belts

  • Leather options fit waist sizes from 24” - 44”

  • Nylon options fit waist sizes from 24” - 54”

  • Available in black leather, brown leather, black nylon, coyote nylon, and gray nylon

  • Exclusively compatible with Kore G-Series buckles

  • 1.75” in width

  • Great for the range. Can support more weight than the 1.5” belts.

1.75” Molle Battle Belts

Kore Molle Battle Belts are the only micro-adjustable MOLLE battle belt on the market today, making them incredibly comfortable and versatile for both duty and range use. These belts are rated to support up to 20lbs worth of gear, perfect for law enforcement, security professionals, and anyone spending time at the range. Our battle belts are a dual belt system, meaning they use a hook-and-loop design for attaching your belt. A complete MOLLE battle belt kit includes one outer belt, one inner belt, and one buckle of your choice.

Kore MOLLE battle belts are available in two different styles: traditional MOLLE webbing and laser-cut MOLLE webbing. Both belts function the exact same way, and there is a negligible weight difference between the two styles. The major difference is that the laser-cut molle battle belts feature a more low-profile design than our traditional molle battle belts. They can both support the same amount of weight, so it’s really a matter of personal preference which design you should choose.

Kore MOLLE battle belts can fit waist sizes from 24” to 48”, and are available in a variety of colors. Our traditional MOLLE battle belts are available in black, coyote, ranger green, grey, licensed Multicam, and licensed Multicam black. Our laser-cut Molle battle belts are currently available in black, coyote, ranger green and grey. Kore Essentials has several accessories and attachments for our MOLLE battle belts, which can make building your duty or range belt quick, easy, and affordable.

Key Features of Kore Molle Battle Belts

  • Fits waist sizes from 24” - 48”

  • The only micro-adjustable Molle battle belt on the market

  • Available in black, gray, coyote, ranger green, Multicam Regular, and Multicam Black

  • Exclusively compatible with Kore B-Series buckles

  • 1.75” in width

  • Modular MOLLE belt. Perfect for range use, duty use, and training

  • Dual belt systems. Exclusively compatible with Kore inner belts

Inner Belt Options - Padded vs. Non-Padded

All of our dual belt systems use the same inner belts. We have two types of inner belts: a padded and a non-padded version. Both belts function exactly the same; however, the only difference between these two is that the padded inner belt has about 2MM of padding, whereas the non-padded inner belt does not.

For people who are wearing their belt for an extended period of time, they may find the padded inner belt to be a more comfortable option. If you are just wearing your belt to the range or you’re wearing it for competition shooting, the non-padded inner belt might be a preferred choice. There is no price difference between the two inner belts, and it’s really a matter of personal preference which one you’d like to wear.

1.75” Battle Belt Accessories

Holster Mounts & Kore Locking System

First on the list are our holster mounts. Kore Essentials offers three different holster mounts, which include our Aluminum Holster Mount for 1.75” to 2.25” belts, our Adjustable Mid-Ride Holster Mount for 1.25” to 2.25” belts, and our Mini Holster Mount for 1.5” belts. Our MOLLE battle belts will work perfectly with our Aluminum Holster Mounts and our Mid-Ride Holster Mount. Both of these holster mounts are compatible with the Safariland, Bladetech, and Alien Gear hole patterns.

The Aluminum and Mid-Ride Holster Mounts include a 1.5” adjustable leg strap for extra stability. Utilizing the included leg strap helps to both improve your draw speed and ensure that you have a consistent draw. Additionally, all available holster mounts include the hardware necessary for assembly. The major differences between the Aluminum Holster Mount and the Mid-ride Holster Mount are the construction and price, with the Aluminum Holster Mount being constructed entirely of aluminum and the Mid-ride Holster Mount being constructed of a premium high-temp glass polymer. As a result, the Mid-ride holster mount is a more affordable option that still offers a heavy-duty holster mount for duty and range use.

A Graphic details the features of the Kore Locking System, as well as the holsters the KLS is compatible with

Another great addition to your dual belt system, whether it’s our 1.75” molle battle belt or our 2” & 2.25” duty belts, is the Kore Locking System (KLS). The KLS is a low-profile, fully serviceable and duty-rated holster-swapping system that allows you to rapidly swap out your gear while maintaining positive control of your firearm. This duty-rated holster-swapping system has a level 2 retention, meaning there are two locking mechanisms keeping your holster in place. Built from aluminum and reinforced high-temp glass polymer, there is zero plastic in the critical load-bearing components of the Kore Locking System, making it incredibly durable for duty, range, and everyday use. For more information about the Kore Locking System, visit the KLS product page today and see what a difference high-quality gear can make.

Mag Pouches & Dump Pouches

At Kore, we took a back-to-basics approach to our collection of mag pouches, delivering a simple, reliable, and versatile set of pouches. Kore mag pouches are available in single pistol, single rifle, and trio, which includes two pistol mag pouches and one rifle mag pouch, all on a single unit. Each mag pouch is reinforced with a glass-polymer insert that gives the retention necessary to support full-sized magazines. As an extra level of retention, each Kore mag pouch also includes a removable bungee.

Kore mag pouches are highly adaptable and can be used on any 1.75” MOLLE battle belt. Using a one-wrap hook-and-loop strap, Kore mag pouches can either be mounted to your belt by using the available MOLLE or by attaching them over the top of the belt. By using the one-wrap hook-and-loop strap, you don’t lose any Velcro real estate when attaching your mag pouches, which is important for maintaining that connection between your inner and outer belt. Kore mag pouches are available in black, coyote, ranger green, and grey, giving you plenty of options of customize your loadout to your liking.

We also offer a versatile dump pouch, available in the same color schemes as our mag pouches. The Kore Essentials dump pouch is constructed with laser-cut 1000D nylon and uses the same one-wrap hook-and-loop strap as our mag pouches. Our dump pouches feature generous open space for easy use, dedicated drain holes for easy cleaning and maintenance, and a flap and bungee closure for easy access. Kore dump pouches are fully collapsible into a low-footprint design, saving you space on your belt without sacrificing usability. This design delivers a lightweight, low-profile, and water-resistant dump pouch that’s a perfect addition to your battle belt setup.

Kore Muffin Top Pads

If you’re looking for a quick deployment system that you can throw on without first equipping your inner belt, then the Kore Muffin Top Pads are the best option for you. This three-piece kit features Velcro-backed pads, giving you the flexibility to position them wherever you need on your belt. They provide just the right amount of padding and support while also incorporating a grippy inner texture to keep your belt securely in place against your clothing. Kore Muffin Top Pads are an excellent choice for anyone looking for a quick-deployment battle belt system that they can throw on over the top of their clothes without using an inner belt.

Kore Essentials Gunfighter Kit

We’ve covered nearly all of the 1.75” MOLLE battle belt options and accessories currently available at Kore Essentials, and while it’s great to have so many options, it can sometimes be difficult to choose what’s right for you. Luckily, we offer a comprehensive battle belt pack called the Gunfighter Kit, which includes everything you need to get started with a battle belt. The Gunfighter Kit is a fully customizable battle belt setup that includes your choice of an outer belt, inner belt, buckle, holster mount, dump pouch, trio mag pouch, and Micro-Trauma Pak. If you’re just getting started with building out your range belt or duty belt and you don’t know where to start, the Gunfighter Kit is a perfect place to start.

2” & 2.25” Duty Belts

Traditionally, duty belts come in standard sizes such as small, medium, large and extra large. This can make finding a duty belt that actually fits incredibly difficult. Oftentimes, police officers are wearing duty belts that aren’t custom-fit for their size, which leads to extreme discomfort. Worse off, most duty belts on the market aren’t reinforced and are generally built with a few thick layers of either nylon or leather. This leads to an inconsistent carry and uneven distribution in your gear, causing your duty belt to sag. As a result, several officers experience severe back pain and general discomfort when wearing a traditional duty belt. Luckily, Kore duty belts address these concerns, delivering a purpose-built and patented reinforced duty belt designed for the specific and unique needs of law enforcement personnel.

Kore Essentials is proud to offer the world's first micro-adjustable Duty Belt, purpose-built for police officers, sheriff’s deputies, U.S. marshals, border patrol agents, specialized law enforcement units, military personnel, and security professionals. Constructed with Armortek Leather for enhanced durability and longevity, Kore duty belts are built for heavy-duty use required by law enforcement personnel. Like all Kore belts, our 2” and 2.25” duty belts are micro-adjustable and cut-to-size, meaning you get the perfect-fitting duty belt every time you put it on. Kore duty belts are reinforced with an extra-thick inner Power-Core™ Center, and can support up to 30lbs, allowing you to carry your full loadout without experiencing sag. The even distribution of your gear delivers exceptional comfort, improving both your physical well-being and safety while on duty.

Kore Essentials duty belts are available in black, basketweave, nylon, and high-gloss. Depending on what your department requires, we have a style available for you. The 2” duty belts are available in black and nylon, while the 2.25” duty belts are available in every style. Our 2.25” duty belts use what we call our D-Series buckles. There are four different buckle options available, which include two low-profile buckle types and two Sam Browne-style buckles, depending on your preference and required style. For our 2” belts, they use what we call our P-Series buckles, which currently have two buckle options for you to choose from.

The main difference between the 2” and 2.25” duty belts is, of course, the width of the belts. Some departments require a wider 2.25” belt, while others require a 2” belt. Both belt types function exactly the same and can support the same amount of weight. The only difference is the width. 2.25” belts are the standard belts for most agencies in the United States, while most European departments use 2” belts. Always be sure to clarify the dress code with your department or agency before purchasing new gear. It’s important to note that Kore P-Series buckles are not interchangeable with Kore D-Series buckles because of this difference in width.

Key Features of Kore Duty Belts
